Your primary focus will be the next generation of a custom operating system abstraction layer, including a C++ system daemon and plugins that expose OS capabilities through an RPC API. Your responsibilities will include:

Developing and maintaining the custom OS abstraction layer, with a strong focus on the modern C++ backend
Implementing and enhancing the next-generation system daemon
Developing plugins that expose operating system capabilities through an RPC API
Contributing technical expertise to medical instrument and software development projects
Creating and maintaining C++ unit and integration tests
Refactoring and improving legacy code to ensure quality and maintainability
Managing Debian packages, configurations and related platform components
Collaborating with Linux software engineers and other technical stakeholders
About the customer:
Our client is a globally recognised healthcare and life sciences organisation developing innovative medical instruments and software solutions. You will join a collaborative team of Linux software engineers within its enterprise platform and infrastructure division.
Requirements:
At least 10 years of hands-on professional experience with modern C++
Strong experience using Linux as a software development environment
Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
Advanced English skills, including the ability to explain technical topics to non-technical audiences
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
Quick learner with a proactive, can-do attitude
Collaborative and team-oriented working style
Nice to have:
Experience with virtualisation or container technologies, particularly Kubernetes
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS
Infrastructure-as-Code experience, ideally with Terraform
Experience in embedded software, hardware drivers or ARM platforms
Knowledge of hardware and software integration
German language skills
Compensation benefits:
Workload: 80–100%
Hybrid working model with approximately 50% onsite presence
